The price of CVS Pharmacy's Viagra has jumped to more than $4 a pill, according to a new report from CVS Health, the nation's largest pharmacy chain and consumer advocacy group.
The report, which includes a $10,000 check from CVS, also showed the pharmacy's prices for the drug jumped 18 cents or 5.9% in the latest three months, the biggest gain in two years.
The rise in prices reflects a push by CVS for more customers to offer their customers a better deal.
CVS says the price increase in the latest two weeks was "between 50 and 100%," according to the report.
The CVS pharmacy price increase was "between $5.25 and $10.50 per pill," according to the report.
The price has also jumped 14% since the latest price increase was announced in March. The average price of the drug jumped to $12.30 a pill last week, up from $7.90 a pill earlier this month.
CVS, which sells its own generic, reported its pharmacy's price rose to $10.75 last week.
The price increase for Viagra, the brand name for the drug, has taken a toll on the pharmacy industry and its members, including CVS.
"This price increase is a result of the growth in the price of the brand-name drug and a growing demand for lower-cost generic alternatives," said Richard Gillespie, a spokesman for CVS.
CVS is among the top three pharmacy retailers in the United States, with more than 45% of all prescriptions filled in 2022 for erectile dysfunction drugs.
Gilliam Whelan, senior vice president of product development, CVS Pharmacy, said the price increase is "an important step toward increasing the number of patients who buy prescription drugs."
