Lahore, China — The U. S. Food and Drug Administration announced Friday that it has received multiple reports of counterfeit versions of the drug Viagra being distributed to consumers.
The FDA, an agency within the United States government, has not identified the source of the reports, but the company, Pfizer, said it is aware of the number of cases. The FDA said it has received a "large number" of reports of counterfeit Viagra being distributed to consumers, but it declined to provide the name of the source. However, the company is still working with manufacturers and suppliers to determine if there are any counterfeit versions of the drug that could be distributed to consumers.
"Viagra is a commonly prescribed medication for treating erectile dysfunction in men," said U. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, David G. Israel.
The FDA said the counterfeit versions were not manufactured by Pfizer. The FDA also has not identified the source of the reports. The company is working with manufacturers and suppliers to determine if there are any counterfeit versions of the drug that could be distributed to consumers.

In the United States, Pfizer has spent more than $50 billion on research and development. In 2009, the company reported $3.8 billion in sales.
The FDA has issued multiple warnings to consumers about the risk of purchasing counterfeit drugs. A "black box warning" from the Food and Drug Administration indicated the risk of receiving counterfeit Viagra. The FDA said the drug had not been approved for use in humans.

Pfizer also said that it will continue to work with U. regulators to develop new products and treatments, including an erectile dysfunction treatment called "PDE-5 inhibitors," which are newer, more potent drugs than their predecessors.

Shelby, MD, is the founder and Chief Medical Officer of a local pharmacy chain in San Antonio, Texas, providing medications to patients in a wide variety of locations, including hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies.
“We are glad that we can help with a new drug that is accessible to many patients,” said Sherry. “For us, it is an easy process. It takes a little bit of time to get it. We’re glad to help patients who are looking to buy Viagra or other similar medications.”
A wide variety of medications is available to those living in San Antonio and can be purchased with the help of a pharmacist or pharmacist at a local pharmacy.
The pharmacist will work with the patient to help them find a medication that they need. Patients can take one of the three types of pills with their prescription. The first type of pill is called a generic Viagra. Other pills may also be available in the form of pills. The generic version is called sildenafil or Viagra. The second type is called an Sildenafil. Patients will need to take the generic Viagra before they can take an Sildenafil.
Shelby’s pharmacist will give patients the medication at a pharmacy, and will help patients determine whether the medication is the right option. Patients are encouraged to ask their pharmacist or pharmacist questions about the medication to ensure the patient is choosing the right medication for their health.
“I think it is important to have the right type of medication for patients to have at their pharmacy,” said Sherry. “If you have a medical problem, you may not have a prescription. You will need to have a prescription. That’s how we are in this pharmacy. That is why we have the pharmacies that do it. It is just the way we are.”
Shelby will take patients through an online form and ask them to fill out an application form to see if a generic Viagra is the right option for them. The form will include information about the type of medication they should take, and what they should expect to be successful. Patients will then fill out the form and complete the online questionnaire. If approved, the patient is dispensed the medication and patients can return the medication for free. Patients will also have the opportunity to discuss their medication options with their pharmacy or pharmacist.
Shelby said the pharmacist will not give patients a generic version of Viagra because it is not covered by insurance. Patients may also have to purchase a prescription for the generic Viagra.
“This will help us to make sure that people can access this medication,” said Sherry. “We’re doing it because this is the most affordable option for everyone, and that is why we are doing it, and it is our priority to get people to do the right thing.”
Shelby, MD, is the founder of San Antonio’s Pharmacy and is a member of the American Pharmacists Association, a trade association that serves as a voice of medical care. She has also been a spokesperson for the American Medical Association.Originally Published: November 11, 2017 at 12:14 PM PDT
